Synopsis: Dr. Becker painstakingly clarifies Luther’s view of reason. After reading this special essay, one will discover that although Luther was an anti-rationalist, he was by no means irrational. There is no better description of Luther’s view of reason than Dr. Becker’s: “Christianity does not need to be molded into a rational image; on the contrary, reason needs to possess a Christian perspective.”

賽格博·貝克(Becker, 1914-1984) 路德宗的牧師及神學家。從他最早在聖路易斯的協 同神學院(Concordia Seminary)唸書開始,就一直在美 國路德會密蘇里總會(Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) 設置的學校體系中就讀。同時,他也在芝加哥大學 修課;在明尼蘇達州立大學,取得文學碩士學位; 在芝加哥的北方神學院(Northern Seminary)取得神 學博士學位。
貝克博士在美國路德會(Missouri Synod)擔任牧師和 教授直到1963年為止,之後,他接受呼召前往威斯 康辛福音路德總會(Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) 牧會。從1969至1984年止,一直在威斯康辛州、米 庫恩的威斯康辛路德神學院擔任系統神學和新約教 授。寫了許多論文和書籍,著作如下:

Becker (1914-1984) was a Lutheran pastor and theologian. From his early studies at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, he attended schools within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod system. He also studied at the University of Chicago, earned a Master of Arts degree from the State University of Minnesota, and a Doctor of Theology degree from Northern Seminary in Chicago.
Dr. Becker served as pastor and professor with the Missouri Synod in the United States until 1963, after which he accepted a calling to pastor at the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. From 1969 to 1984, he taught Systematic Theology and New Testament at Wisconsin Lutheran Theological Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. He has written numerous papers and books, including: The Scriptures, Inspired of God; The Holy Ghost and His Work; Wizards That Peep: A Journey into the Occult; Revelation: The Distant Triumph Song; and The Bible and Salvation (Swedish).
