Reading the Bible With Understanding

For centuries, God has conveyed His message through various authors. He wants us to understand all the facts recorded in the Bible and His purpose in writing it.

We should read the Bible with understanding, meaning we don’t just need to know the history or events of God’s people. We read the Bible to understand what God has told us.

However, our own sinful nature often prevents us from seeing the good news of Jesus Christ; therefore, reading the Bible is also a spiritual battle, not just an intellectual activity.

The first part of this book examines five principles for interpreting the Bible and explains how these principles can help us understand it. It also explores the distinction between the Law and the Gospel, a key to reading the Bible.

The second part examines literary genres in the Bible, such as poetry, prophecy, parables, and revelatory writings, focusing on some of the more difficult passages.

Finally, the third part provides information about the Bible, such as who wrote which books, when these books were written, the origin of the English Bible, and a quick assessment of different Bible translations and paraphrases.
