One evening, Mr. McFarland’s youngest daughter asked him how to pray at a family gathering. Mr. McFarland told her a story that took place five hundred years ago…
In a certain village, there lived a barber named Peter. One day, the famous monk Martin Luther visited his barbershop. Peter thought that while the great religious reformer—Professor Luther—was still sitting there, he could ask him how to pray while Peter was cutting his hair and shaving him!
“Professor Luther, could you teach me how to pray?”
Martin Luther wrote a letter in response to Peter, which later became the Simple Prayer Book. When Peter learned how to use the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Apostles’ Creed in prayer, his life was forever changed!
